Welppppp, I'll admit it. I had a bit of a breakdown today. But let me back up for you...
So I'm in FoodLion (a store I am not particularly fond of) trying to find all the last minute things I may need- Benedryl, Advil (or should I get Motrin?), Pepto, snacks, ear plugs, etc. I was thinking about how I am leaving for the airport tomorrow night and then I'll be flying out Monday morning! Everything I need to do straight smacked me in the face at once and I was freaking out. What if I forget something completely necessary?! What if I get totally homesick? What if...
WHAT IF is so useless. SO unnecessary. It does no good and just gets me into a tizzy in a split second. So, yep... That happened. I'm in the snack aisle of FoodLion and I was so distraught over getting Chex Mix or Quakers Rice Cakes that you would have thought it was a life-pending decision. I was getting sympathetic glances from all the passersby as I decided I needed to sit down and stare at my snack choices for a while. But then I decided to do what I should have done 10 minutes earlier... call Heather Lawrence- one of my besties (or best friends- translation for all of you old folks out there) from JMU but also my small group leader with InterVarsity.
And let me just say, that was the best decision I have made in a while. 2 summers ago, Heather went to the same place to volunteer that I am going to! I will even be staying in the same exact room that she stayed in. She completely fell in love with all the kids there and would go back in the blink of an eye. She was telling me that I may be overwhelmed going there in the beginning, but then I won't want to come back! Needless to say, she talked some sense into me. Honestly I am now more excited for this trip than I have ever been!! It was so good to refocus and remember- this is so not about me! And when I make it about me, I just make a big ol' mess.
And, um HELLO KELLEY!! Look at the name of your blog, why don't cha?! Joshua 1:9 anybody? Come on now... get yourself together.
I am leaving Richmond in less than 24 hours, and then I'll be flying out Monday morning at 7:55. It won't be a surprise to most of you when I say that I have had my bags packed and ready to go by my door for a few days now. A little of a type A personality I guess... Now I just have to cross off a few more things on my to-do list, such as finding a donut pillow and baking goodies for the plane. But I am so ready to go! Let's get this party started already!
Side note: I'll put an end to your suspense- I ended up getting both the Chex Mix and Quakers Rice Cakes. Go big or go home, right?
Soooo... sorry for the novel I just wrote. But I felt as though it was necessary.
Well, I'm out! Next time I post will be in South Africa! :)
Honey! We are so excited for you. We will be praying for you tomorrow as you fly!
